Linden Hall Library: ๐ŸŒธ Summer Reading ๐ŸŒธ

โ˜€๏ธ FAQ โ˜€๏ธ

Do I have to do summer reading this year?
Yes! Not only is reading good for you and your brain (as studies have shown), but it's a vital way to ensure you continue to learn, grow, and develop a lifelong love of reading-- which is important. Trust me.

How long do I have?
Summer Reading will officially begin on Monday, May 26th and end on September 8th.

Can I choose any book I want?
Yes! But also! English Department has tossed in some speciality recommendations and if you read one of their picks, you win an extra prize. Ebooks, audiobooks, graphic novels, and fanfiction over 40,000 words absolutely count!

Where do I find these tried & true English Department recommendations?
 Look to the right!

What if I want to read more than 1 book?
That's awesome and I fully support it. The more books you read, the more entries you have for the raffle on September 8th to win some cool bookish prizes!

Do I have to write an essay or do a project for this?
Nope, but be prepared to talk to other students about the books you've read & engage in some literary activities with your English teachers when we're back at school!

Where can I access books to read at home?
Check out your local library, borrow books from your friends and family, or buy your books from an independent bookstore!

If you like ebooks or e-audiobooks:

  • Project Gutenberg has 60,000+ titles out of the public domain (lots of classic literature!)
  • LibriVox has a stellar collection of audiobooks read by volunteers
  • Find out if your library at home has access to ebooks through services like Overdrive and apply for a library card
  • Free Library of Philadelphia has access to ebook/e-audiobooks through Overdrive
    • Anyone who goes to school in the state of Pennsylvania can sign up for an online card from them totally free!
      • Use the address at Linden Hall if your permanent residence isn't in Pennsylvania:
        212 E Main Street, Lititz, PA 17543
  • Lititz Public Library has access to ebooks/e-audiobooks through Overdrive and Hoopla
    • Sign up online for a temporary card that is good for 3 months. Once the 3 months is over, stop by the Library with some ID and they can get you a full fledged library card.
      • Use the address at Linden Hall if your permanent residence isn't in Lancaster County:
        212 E Main Street, Lititz, PA 17543
  • The Brooklyn Public Library is offering a free e-card to teens aged 13-21 which will give you full access to their ebook resources and databases through their Books Unbanned initiative.

What about AP summer work?
Some AP classes have required reading over the summer. These books do not count towards the summer reading program! Sorry!
