Summer Reading FAQ

Is Summer Reading required?

Yes. The requirement is stated in the Linden Hall Course of Study.

 

Do I have to write an essay or do a project for any of the books over the summer?

No. But please be prepared to discuss your choice book with a 3 people for at least 3 minutes each (you write down what you want to say, just please remember not to tell what happens at the end). You will also be participating in a workshop with the author in September, based on the "option' book you choose. 

 

May I borrow a copy of one of the "option" books by Beth Kephart? 

Please plan to purchase your own copy of one of the books by our community author. She will be hosting a book signing during her visit. There are no print library copies available for students to borrow over the summer. 

The Linden Hall Library has a limited number of eBook copies of Small Damages and Wild Blues. You might be able to access these titles using the Linden Hall Library DESTINY DISCOVER App They may be borrowed for 1 week. Please note that availability is limited.  

 

May I borrow a choice book from the Linden Hall Library for the summer?

Yes, you may borrow a "choice" book from the Linden Hall Library for the summer. If the book is lost, please note that you will be charged the replacement cost to be determined by Ms. Rhoades plus a $5 processing charge. 

 

I looked at the lists of suggested titles. Where else can I look for ideas?

Aaron's Bookstore on Main Street in Lititz (15% discount for Linden Hall) or your local independent bookseller

Your local public library

Goodreads

Online booksellers such as Barnes and Noble 

 

Where can I find professional book reviews?
